Tavel, Rhone Valley, France
Grape: Grenache, Shiraz and Carignan.
Tavel, often called the "King of Rosés," is a tiny appellation in the southern Rhône Valley with a big personality.
Unlike the delicate rosés of Provence, Tavel embraces its robust character unapologetically.
Its reputation dates back to the time of kings, and it was reportedly a favorite of Louis XIV, and it was also exclaimed to be a great wine by King Phillip IV.
Yet, it remains a well-kept secret for many wine lovers, quietly waiting to surprise those who dare to venture beyond the familiar rose that are meant for easy drinking.
This is a sophisticated rose with power, that allows it to pair with a lot of grilled fishes, and salmon and roasted chicken or duck.
The winery name, Domaine Les Hautes Roches means (The High Rocks Estate).
